Last March I spent three days filming and photographing Greater Sage-Grouse and their habitat on Pathfinder Ranches in Wyoming for my job at the National Audubon Society. This species is not only beautiful and amazing to watch during its mating season, but it’s also the symbol of the fight to protect the North American West. Thanks to the help of conservation photographer Dave Showalter and Matt Hoobler of Pathfinder Ranches, the shoot was a great success.
A couple weeks ago, Vox published a video produced by Laura Bolt and Danush Parvaneh using lots of the footage I recorded. The video is one of the best explainers of sage-grouse conservation I’ve seen. If you don’t understand how Greater Sage-Greater sage-grouse mating display works, why the species represents the health of more than 450 others, and how the Trump administration is ravaging their most important habitat, please watch and share this excellent and entertaining video.
