Gopher Tortoise

Gopher Tortoise

One day I was out helping a researcher track gopher tortoises when we found one trying to beat us to his burrow! In this case, slow and steady did not win the race.

The old fella hesitated when he saw me and I took the chance to get on my belly and set up a nice wide angle shot between him and his burrow. Now, if you’ve ever seen a Gopher Tortoise, you know that they have the personality of a grumpy old man, and they don’t seem to like having people or cameras around them. So with a pained expression on his face, the tortoise grudgingly walked into my shot in order to get back into his burrow, but not before flinging some sand at me.
