I had a great time crawling on my belly to get this shot. Normally these guys are super shy, but by moving slowly and not looking directly at him I was able to get this portrait. Florida Scrub Lizards are another great example of a species common in the scrub and hardly found anywhere else.
If you walk around Florida scrub you’re likely to hear a dry rustle just in front of your feet. If you look down quick enough, you might spot a Florida Scrub Lizard. The patterns on these lizards are beautiful. Breeding males have a blue line on their sides and females have a lovely set of dark stripes cutting across their backs. These are the cheetahs of the insect world. They dart across the sand with incredible speed and snap up insects faster than your eye can comprehend! Similar to Florida Scrub Jays, they are only found in or near Florida scrub.
